The name of
Ameer-ud-din was given to this medical college to pay homage
to an illustrious surgeon Prof. Ameer-ud-Din who was
professor of surgery in King Edward Medical College.
Dr. Ameer served as
senior professor of surgery at Mayo Hospital at the time of
partition. He rendered glorious services for the treatment
of those who got injured at the hands of Sikhs and Hindus
during migration. The secret of his success as a medical
educationist lay in the fact that he practiced in his life
what he preached in his lectures to his students.
Prof. Ameer-ud-din had the qualities of character and
intellect, which he wished to inculcate in his students. His
whole life bore a shining example of sincerity and truth,
truth which he loved and advocated with Socratic passion,
truth which makes no compromise with expediency. He was
sincere to his patients and no one could influence him over
his professional honesty. He refused to give time for
medical checkup to the then President of Pakistan Field
Marshal Ayub Khan by saying that the President did not come
at the appointed time. So being a medical practitioner he
did not treat the President by usurping the right of another
waiting poor patient. Ayub Khan returned without getting
medical treatment.

professional who headed various eminent institutions in
Punjab and other provinces. He used to extend his helping
hands towards the needy impecunious patients and educational
scholarships to the deserving students. Prof. Ameer sold his
personal capacious house situated at the most expensive area
of the city Gulberg and donated all the money got from
purchasing his house to the development of the Paediatric
Surgery Ward of Mayo Hospital Lahore.
