The Department of Forensic
Medicine & Toxicology PGMI was started in 1976 by the
Pioneer Professor of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology Dr.
Nasib R. Awan. Since then the PGMI Lahore has been
producing doctors with postgraduate qualification of DMJ
(Diploma in Medical Jurisprudence). The Forensic Medicine
& Toxicology department of PGMI has produced 92
postgraduate doctors with DMJ qualification who are
serving in various public and private sector medical
colleges throughout the country.
The department has started
the M. Phil Forensic Medicine & Toxicology programme and
enrolled 11 students who are studying under the guidance
of Professor (Rtd) Dr. Abdur Rasheed Mian (FCPS Forensic
Medicine& Toxicology), appointed as honorary supervisor of
M. Phil Forensic Medicine & Toxicology.
This department is well
equipped with offices, lecture theatres, tutorial room,
demonstrator office, serology lab and museum having all
types of models and artificial weapons and other
facilities for teaching, presentations, discussion and
practical training of postgraduate students. This year
PGMI is inducting the first year MBBS class and we
welcome, and are prepared and well equipped to provide
quality teaching and practical training to the students
when they come to this department in 3rd year.
A
modern mortuary with all necessary facilities including
two autopsy labs, Medico-Legal clinic, X-Ray & Ultrasound
room, Histopathology lab, Biological lab and Forensic
Anatomy lab, cold storage for preservation dead bodies, is
under construction in the premises of Lahore General
Hospital, Lahore.
